Update: Tests Show Jaeschke Tore His ACL, Verona Reports

In the 3rd set of the United States’ 3-0 sweep over Serbia in the Volleyball Nations League,¬†Thomas Jaeschke¬†fell to the court after landing from an attack approach on the left side. His knee appeared to buckle underneath him, and viewers of the broadcast could hear him call out in pain. Matt Anderson and Max Holt caried him off the court with the score 4-4 in the final set.

The United States went on to win the set 25-14 after T.J. DeFalco finished the match for Jaeschke at the outside hitter position. Jaeschke was seen in a wheelchair with ice on his knee at the end of the match. It was a somewhat somber mood for Team USA after a commanding performance over Serbia.

BluVolley Verona, Jaeschke’s team in the Italian SuperLega, released a statement after the match stating their thoughts and concerns were with the outside hitter after such a bad injury. They also stated that they were in contact with USA Volleyball and would get an update after Jaeschke underwent tests on Saturday morning.

Verona released a tweet on Saturday informing their fans that Jaeschke had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The club explained that the initial tests carried out in Chicago identified the injury, but they were not aware of the length of recovery at this point in time.
