In Group 3 Pool C3 at the FIVB World League, Venezuela did not show up for their first match against Austria, forfeiting the match. The win gave Austria a very easy 3-0 victory to kick off their very first World League match.

Venezuela eventually showed up in Frankfurt and was able to play in their final two matches of week one of World League play. The two remaining matches were played as scheduled.

While there, the Venezuelan team was able to take a crucial win over Kazakhstan 3-1, (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22), for their only win in the opening round of the World League. The match came down to the little points that added up in the end, which Venezuela was able to handle in the wake of their first match debacle.

The team’s head coach, Ronald Sarti said, “It was an important game for us because we missed the first one. I am satisfied with our performance. We did well in reception and tactical, but we still had some ups and down.”

In their third match of the World Leauge, Venezuela was taken down the German hosts 3-1, (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14). They could not handle the hot German offense, along with a 13-5 blocking disadvantage.

The Venezuelan team is ranked ninth overall, so far, in the World League, with two more weeks of play to go. Their next matches are in Tallinn, Estonia with the first coming against Greece on June 9.
